St. Prophet Malachi (Malahia)

Jan 3. On the Eastern Orthodox liturgical calendar, his feast day is January 3.

The Prophet

The Prophet Malachias ("messenger of God") is the last of the 12 minor Prophets. Malachias' book of prophecy is divided into 4 chapters; he foretold the coming of Christ as the Sun of Righteousness (4:2).

He was the last of the minor prophets of David, and the writer of the Book of Malachi, the last book of the Christian edition Old Testament canon.

Book of Malachi

Malachi (or Malachias) is a book of the Hebrew Bible, written by the prophet Malachi. This is the final book of the Hebrew Bible in Christian. Possibly this is not the name of the author, since Malachi means 'my messenger' or 'my angel' in Hebrew.

The book of Malachi was written to correct the lax religious and social behavior of the Israelites – particularly the priests – in post-exilic Jerusalem. Primarily because of its messianic promise, the book of Malachi is frequently referred to in the Christian New Testament. Christians believe that the messianic prophecies of the book of Malachi have been fulfilled in the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.
